More under the hood

Filed under: Web Developer, Developers Log — Starwolf @ 11:05 pm

Some fairly exciting happiness of late, I got around to checking the google analytics, discovered that I am getting a lot of traffic. :)

I have decided to add some advertising on the site, to help support the hosting.

Working on a new skin for the background style switcher. :)

Doing some overdue under the hood cleanup… typo fix, CSS work, that sort of stuff.

Yes it’s been quiet..just a few recent updates….

Filed under: Developers Log, Site Updates — Starwolf @ 12:19 am

Hey,not a lot of updates recently.
I did add a song Anarchos wrote, you can hear it on the home page.

You can also see a new little feature on the homepage, a style switcher that  swaps out the background. Right now its in a VERY early version, just a teaser really, watch for it to get shinier and more elaborate over time. Also working slowly on getting some of the under the hood code cleaned up (the site still explodes on some pages in IE6).
other than that not much on the site, due to work gets VERY busy during the holidays up through Valentine’s Day (I work on the websites for a major greeting card company, and Valentine’s Day is our biggest holiday). So, now that the hectic season is over, I’ll be getting back to work on the site again. Thanks for everybody’s patience. :)

Thanksgiving Day Updates

Filed under: Developers Log, Site Updates — Starwolf @ 10:06 pm

After an eternity, another update to the site…delay due to acquiring a notebook computer and setting it up, plus updating a computer includes installing ALL the software, and rounding up all my photoshop brushes, my fonts…. Long story short: another page added… the start of our travel section! After all, why should a wiki act like a wiki? When it can be tourism information! check out what we have to offer about fine dining at The New Narakort Inn

I hate computers

Filed under: Developers Log — Starwolf @ 9:32 pm

Yes we have no updates to the site for a few days. Remember last week’s hard drive crash? And the shiny new hard drive that I ordered? Well, It arrived, and we started the install on the weekend. Here it is, Wednesday night, and I’m still working on the damned computer, reinstalling software etc. Lets just say that this weekend the installation of the new terabyte hard drive and the upgrade to Vista Ultimate did NOT go as smoothly as one might have hoped, and took a lot longer than planned. Its working now, but I am STILL doing my installs and updates etc etc etc etc etc. And I still have a long way to go.

Not to those who are interested in getting into computers: there are many other hobbies out there which are 1) cheaper, 2) less time consuming, and 3) better for your blood pressure.  I strongly encourage you to consider any of these alternatives.

functionality updates….

Filed under: Developers Log — Starwolf @ 11:56 pm

yes, even on a Friday nite, I code.

So tonight, I updated the ad module on the home page. It now rotates the ads. Next I probably should go through, cut the weight of all the images on this site. Which is becoming a SERIOUS BANDWIDTH HOG.  It does seem to be getting a wee bit of traffic now. Yowza.

CDProjekt RED Conspiracy, More Vizima Advertising, and a new server

Filed under: Developers Log, Site Updates — Starwolf @ 10:33 pm

Hey, I’m playing Catch-up on Content!  Check out the new article on the CDProjekt RED / Witcher Cult coverup…. and check out all the familiar pages for lots of new advertising!!! Our ad-sales people in Vizima have been busy!

On another note, I just had my hosting company move the site to a new server and upgrade my bandwidth allotment. So the site will be able to have more shiny goodness, without constantly getting notificiations about my chewing up bandwidth. :)

the joys of computers…

Filed under: Developers Log — Starwolf @ 1:47 am

OK. you may have noticed that the site hasn’t had any updates recently.  This is courtesy my lovely computer, which decided to have a nice little hard drive crash this past weekend. Oh Joy. Anyway, I thankfully have a computer guy on retainer, so he came over and saved the day, got the thing up, the salvageable bits backed up, and I am up and running (with a few glitches) while I wait for my brand new hard drive to get here. If you are in the Cleveland area, I heartily recommend Paul from http://vardarissoft.com/ for all your computer needs. You may also recognize Paul as the same PaulV from the modding team over at REDFlame Interactive . Anyway, watch for a nice new expose about the Community Specialists over at CDProjekt RED, up on this site.

Tweaking the Navigation

Filed under: Developers Log — Starwolf @ 11:13 pm

Tonight was just about cleaning up the top navigation on the site, just some fixes to the CSS and the image to get it looking better. Note for the future when I have some time to work on it: redo the sprites for the buttons.

Link To Us Banners

Filed under: Developers Log, Site Updates — Starwolf @ 12:10 am

Just a little today, got a start on making new banners and updating the “link to us” page. Checking out the features on a different hosting server (same company), might have to move the site over (there’s some sweet site tools on it). Hints of upcoming EXTREMELY SWEET goodies for TWWW, courtesy of a conversation today with the mysterious Anarchos….

Billboard rotator added!

Filed under: Developers Log, Site Updates — Starwolf @ 12:58 am

Very exciting! My colleague James at work is a gifted flash developer. He has gifted the site with his expertise, and has built a very nice flash billboard rotator for the site! You can see the early functionality of it up on the homepage as of tonight! I’m fried from getting it in place and updated so it works. Now I have to do more photoshopping for it. You will be seeing more of this on the site, in the coming weeks. Many thanks to him for his patience with building this for us!
