Note: This Support Project has been approved and authorized by Eriash of CDProjekt RED. All contributions will go directly to Mobidoy, and will be put directly into a fund to help him purchase a laptop computer, and pay for his medications and treatments, so that he can remain in the forums despite his disability.

Community SuperHero Mobidoy joined the Official Forums in November of 2007, and from the beginning was one of the most active and helpful Community Moderators around. He spent hours giving technical support and helping build the community. He is also a career soldier, serving his country and the world. He was in Bosnia in 93-94 (during war), and in Cyprus, 1990-91. Ask him about drag-racing tanks.

In May of 2008 Mobidoy disappeared from the forums, due to severe pain in his arms and hands. He was diagnosed with Bilateral Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) in August 2008, briefly; it is a compression of the nerves, veins and arteries that goes to your arms and hands. The condition make it difficult for him to use a regular computer, or even do normal things of daily life like drive, open a jar, or sit at a table to eat. He has also been unable to work.

Right now he has a desktop computer but he can only use it a little, because of pain. For Mobidoy to be able to fully rejoin and support the community, he needs a notebook computer, so that he can position it so he can type without pain. Unfortunately, due to the cost of his medications and treatments, he cannot afford one.

Read more about Mobidoy in his own words.

We are asking for YOUR HELP in raising the funds to buy him a new notebook computer and pay for his medications and treatments so he can continue his work in our community. Even if you can only help a little (yes, its a tough economy), even a dollar or euro adds up. And we want to thank you in advance for your contributions and support!!!

Mobidoy: In His Own Words

Hello everyone,

Starwolf, the owner of www.thewitcherworld.com asked me to make a letter explaining who I am for the Witcher universe, what happened to me, why I need a laptop and finally, why I can’t get one on my own.

I discovered The Witcher on release date in October 2007. I had problems installing it so I jumped on the forum to find out that many others were in the same situation. Instead of waiting for a solution, I decided to use my skills with computer and find the problems. I did manage to fix it and tried the game. I was so impressed by that new and refreshing RPG that I went back to the forum and started helping others so they could play that great game.

It soon took most of my time, I was doing an average of 8 to 10 hours of technical support per day on week days and around 18 hours on week-end. I created an email address, the_witcher_unofficial_support@live.ca which, when I can, is still in operation. The technical board was my Den, it was easy to get good and quick tech support. I would spend hours on IM’s telling others how to fix/find their problems or, helping them changing components, doing the maintenance so their system would be run at its best. All that while being an international Moderator on the official forums. Later on, I was named Lead moderator.I never finished the game as I was dedicating all my spare time (even while at work) to the forum and for support. In fact, My Geralt never seen the 2nd Chapter.

In late May 2008, I starting feeling pain in all my fingers joints, I could not hold a pen, open bottle caps or any activity that would put pressure on my joints. No need to say that typing was really hard for me. I was diagnosed with Bilateral Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) in August 2008, briefly; it is a compression of the nerves, veins and arteries that goes to your arms and hands. The Thoracic outlet is in your shoulder/neck area. It causes irritation to the nerves in the shoulder area sending false message of pain to your brain.

For the first time in months on Sunday, April 5th it was the first time in months that I could get on a computer with relatively no immediate pain. But, if I want to get online, I need to sit at a desktop and, the way the whole body is placed, it increases the pain. It is the same thing while sitting at the table to eat a meal or to drive a car. I am not, in fact, allowed to drive. Problem is that to do those activities you need to raise your arms raised a bit with your shoulders like when you shrug and that makes the muscle contract, reducing the thoracic outlet size and irritating more the nerves, reducing the blood flow to the arms and also, making it harder for the blood to leave the arms.

This is where the Laptop comes handy, I had one couple of months ago but one of the hinge was broken, while trying to set myself in bed to get full support to my neck and shoulder to prevent further damages, the screen flipped backwards breaking the second hinge and the screen when it dropped on the floor.

A new laptop would give me the option to sit in a lazy-boy or in the bed with full support to my neck and shoulders so I could start again provide all those hours of free tech support not only so you can play the game but, anything about computers. Either it is to find free software or learn how to do any tasks.

All the medication I take and the treatments I need really eats a big chunk of our budget. We just have enough to provide food and a roof to our 3 kids so buying a notebook is way down on our list of priorities

Add to the equation that to get a compensation for my problem and to have the army to pay for all the needed treatments and medication, I have to prove that my problem is from the work I have been doing for the last 20 years. The cost of the expertise that I will have on the 27 May 2009 is 2100$ and only 400$ will be refundable no matter the decision that will be taken.

I am not into begging and to feel that you need to give to have my help or because I helped you in the past. This is totally on a voluntary base and something I was not expecting but even a small contribution of 1$, with the number of members on the forum, it should be easy to raise a good amount.

Thank you to everyone, Christian "Mobidoy" Parent
